These Graduate Division Privately Endowed Fellowships are funded by gifts and endowments, each with specific eligibility criteria. These programs are campus-wide and are used to attract and retain outstanding graduate students.

Dolores Zohrab Liebmann Fellowship 

UCLA is able to nominate three candidates. Each fellowship, renewable upon application for up to a total of three years, provides an annual stipend of $18,000 plus all tuition and fees (including the professional degree supplemental tuition).

Students in all fields and in all degree objectives are eligible to apply.  Fellowships will be awarded only to candidates who:

  • have outstanding undergraduate records,
  • have demonstrated a need for financial assistance
  • are citizens of the United States of America [at the time of application]
  • are enrolled in accredited colleges and universities in the United States
  • and have received baccalaureate degrees.

A Fellow must conduct studies in the United States while receiving the funding.

Graduate Summer Research Mentorship (GSRM)
The GSRM Program is designed to provide financial support for doctoral students in the arts, humanities, social sciences, public health and nursing. Awardees should consider it as their principal/primary summer activity.

UCLA Collegium of University Teaching Fellows

The Collegium of University Teaching Fellows (CUTF) offers graduate students the opportunity to teach undergraduate, general education seminars on topics related to their dissertation research.

To qualify, you must:
– Advance to candidacy by September 24, 2022
– Not have previous teaching experience of the same seminar at UCLA

If you’re interested in applying, please submit the following items to Lisa Audish (laudish@humnet.ucla.edu) by Friday, February 11, 2022:
– the completed application form
– a draft syllabus of the proposed course
– a sample required reading list
– a brief statement or cover letter
– a copy of your curriculum vitae

The department can only nominate up to 3 students, so we will review the submitted applications and choose our top candidates. We will then submit the application on your behalf.

CERS awards summer language study grants of up to $3,000 to UCLA graduate students to study a modern European language or Russian as part of their research preparation. ASECS / Clark Fellowships
Fellowships jointly sponsored by the American Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies and the Center/Clark are available to postdoctoral scholars and to ABD graduate students with projects in the Restoration or the eighteenth century. Fellowship holders must be members in good standing of ASECS. Awards are for one month of residency.

Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad (DDRA)

The DDRA program provides opportunities to doctoral candidates to engage in full-time dissertation research abroad in modern foreign languages and area studies.  The program is particularly interested in funding “A research project conducted in the field of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, computer science, education (comparative or international), international development, political science, public health, or economics.” The project dates are October 1, 2022 through March 31, 2024. DDRA research projects may be any consecutive 6-12 months during that period.

Basic Requirements
– must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident at time of application
– be advanced to doctoral candidacy before your award begins
– be studying a modern language or area studies
– be proficient in the language(s) necessary to carry out your research
– planning a teaching career in the U.S. upon completion of doctoral program
