Romanian
Spoken by approximately 25 million people worldwide, Romanian is the only romance language to have developed in Eastern Europe. Romania has a rich history that include periods governed by monarchy, communism, and democracy. The Romanian language program at UCLA is one of the most robust language programs in the department and strives to educate students both about the Romanian language and Romanian culture and history. Students partake regularly in department-sponsored events such as film screenings, poetry recitations, and talent shows. As they become more proficient in Romanian, students are encouraged to study the language at the most advanced levels offered by the department.
