Ukrainian

Ukrainian is the declared national and official language of the newly independent republic of Ukraine. Approximately 83 percent of the inhabitants in Ukraine are native speakers. The Ukrainian language program at UCLA is proud to offer a variety of Ukrainian language courses of all different levels. These courses are often supplemented with cultural lessons and participation in annual departmental events such a Poetry and Music Night and a talent show for which students prepare acts presented in Ukrainian.

Students who are already familiar with one Slavic language are encouraged to study other Slavic languages such as Bosnian, Croatian, and Serbian because they have common vocabulary and some share the Cyrillic alphabet.
